LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â Four members of the UNLV swimming and diving program, three men and one from the women's squad, have earned CSCAA (College Swim Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-America honors, the organization released this week. This comes one week after both the men's and women's squads were recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team for the 2019 Spring Semester. In addition, the Western Athletic Conference announced this week that six Rebels were named to the Academic All-WAC Spring Sports Freshman/Transfers team.
The men were highlighted a First Team selection in freshman
Tazman Abramowicz, while receiving Honorable Mention status this season from the men's squad were fellow classmates
Michal Cukanow and
Ivan Zhukau.Â
UNLV's women were represented by freshman
Carissa Armijo, as she was an Honorable Mention selection.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or, for diving, competed at their respective qualifying meets.
In addition to Abramowicz, Cukanow and Zhukau,
Casey McEuen and
Bertrand Phung were also named to the 2018-19 Academic All-WAC team for Freshman/Transfers, where they were joined by junior
Hayden Hemmens. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. The duo join three more Rebels (
Dagen Kipling,
Ethan Klein,
James Piotrowski) that had previously been named to the Academic All-WAC for Winter Sports in April. Â
