LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â UNLV played No. 2 Saint Mary's even for the first half but could not overcome a red card early in the second half, as the Gaels used their man-up advantage to post a pair of goals for a 2-0 victory over the Rebels in men's college soccer action Thursday night from Peter Johann Memorial Field. The game was the first of the day in the Johann Memorial Classic. Saint Mary's moved to 6-0 and kept their unbeaten streak alive at 30 games, while the Rebels dropped to 2-5, with their first loss of the year by more then one goal.
Though Saint Mary's held a 4-1 shot advantage at the half, the game was played in the middle of the field for the majority of the opening 45 minutes while UNLV started to step up the pressure near the end. Just over five minutes into the second half though Rebel defender
Tyler Allen was called for a red card just outside the box. The Gaels missed the free kick, but would score less then a minute later for a 1-0 lead (52nd minute) over the shorthanded UNLV team. Saint Mary's added to the lead in the 69th minute for a 2-0 advantage.
UNLV will close out play in the Johann Memorial Classic Sunday at 7 pm against Santa Clara.
