LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – New UNLV football coach
Marcus Arroyo announced the first seven full-time assistants along with the strength and conditioning coach for his 2020 Rebel staff Thursday.
On offense,
Danny Langsdorf will coach quarterbacks and serve as pass game coordinator;
Cameron Norcross will oversee the offensive line and be the Rebels' run game coordinator;
Scott Baumgartner will coach running backs; while
Jordan Paopao will serve as both tight ends coach and special teams coordinator.
On defense,
Kenwick Thompson will coach linebackers;
Damon Magazu will oversee safeties; and
Tre Watson will handle cornerbacks.
Matt Fyle will oversee Rebel football's strength and conditioning program.

Danny Langsdorf – Quarterbacks/Pass Game Coordinator
Longtime collegiate and NFL coach
Danny Langsdorf comes to UNLV after spending last year in the same position at Fresno State and the previous season as an offensive analyst at Oregon. Prior to that, Langsdorf was an FBS-level offensive coordinator 12 of 13 seasons. Langsdorf paired with Mike Riley for a second time at Nebraska for three seasons from 2015-17 as an offensive coordinator after spending 2014 as the quarterbacks coach with the New York Giants. Before that, he spent the previous nine seasons as Riley's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon State from 2005-13, helping the Beavers make six bow trips. From 2002-04, Langsdorf was on the New Orleans Saints' coaching staff. He also spent three seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos. Langsdorf first worked for Riley at Oregon State in 1997 and '98, when he coached the tight ends as a graduate assistant. The former college quarterback at Boise State and Linfield (Oregon) College started his coaching career at Cal Lutheran in 1996.
Cameron Norcross – Offensive Line/Run Game Coordinator
Cameron Norcross joins UNLV after four seasons in the SEC as offensive line coach for Vanderbilt. He went to Nashville after serving four years at Fresno State that included three bowl trips, including the Bulldogs' 11-2 season in 2013 that ended with a Las Vegas Bowl appearance. Previously, Norcross served an 11-year stint at his alma mater, UNR, helping the Wolf Pack to seven consecutive bowl appearances from 2005-11. Starting his coaching career as a GA there, he was hired as the tight ends and co-offensive line coach in 2003 and was promoted to run-game coordinator and OL coach in 2010. A three-year letterman on the UNR offensive line (1997-99), Norcross was an All-Big West selection in 1998. A native of Ely, he holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in management.
Scott Baumgartner – Running Backs
A veteran of the Mountain West,
Scott Baumgartner comes to UNLV to coach running backs after spending the last seven seasons at New Mexico. He coached the Lobos' wide receivers for five of those seasons and their running backs in 2016 and '17. Prior to UNM, Baumgartner coached for nine years at UNR, seven as the Wolf Pack's wide receiver coach. Before arriving in Reno, Baumgartner, who has more than three decades of college coaching experience, spent eight years coaching receivers, quarterbacks and special teams at Central Missouri State. He also spent four seasons as an assistant coach at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, and started his collegiate coaching career in 1988 at his alma mater, Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, where he was an all-conference receiver after transferring from Cerritos College in Norwalk, California.
Jordan Paopao – Tight Ends/Special Teams Coordinator
Jordan Paopao, who will oversee UNLV's tight ends as well as serving as special teams coordinator, comes to Las Vegas after completing his seventh season as the tight ends coach at Washington. That stint included two Pac-12 Conference championships in the last four years for the Huskies. He was named to that position in January of 2013 after having served the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at UW. Paopao coached in a bowl game all nine seasons while in Seattle, including trips to the Peach Bowl CFP Semifinal, Fiesta Bowl and Rose Bowl, as well as last month's Las Vegas Bowl. He started his career at Stanford and moved to Azusa Pacific before joining the Huskies. A standout player at the University of San Diego, Paopao was a three-time Mid-Major All-American for the Toreros before graduating in 2008.
Kenwick Thompson – Linebackers
A veteran of the Mountain West,
Kenwick Thompson comes to UNLV after serving the last two seasons at Fresno State as the run game coordinator and linebackers coach under Jeff Tedford. That stint included winning the 2018 Mountain West Championship and Las Vegas Bowl behind the nation's No. 3 scoring defense. He previously spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at East Carolina, joining the Pirate staff after two seasons at Vanderbilt, where he served as an associate head coach and linebackers coach in 2015. Thompson headed to the SEC school after spending the 2013 season as defensive coordinator at San Jose State. He previously coached under Tedford at California from 2007 to 2012, working as the assistant head coach and linebackers coach while playing a key role assisting the Golden Bears to four bowl appearances. During his first stint at San Jose State from 2001-06, Thompson served in a variety of coaching roles under head coaches Fitz Hill and Dick Tomey. His positions included linebackers coach (2001-03), defensive line coach (2004), defensive tackles coach (2006), recruiting coordinator (2001-2004) and head strength and conditioning coach (2005). From 1994 to 2000, Thompson was on the coaching staff at Texas Southern, including the last five seasons as defensive coordinator. During the summer of 2000, he was a participant in the NFL's Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Oakland Raiders. After an all-conference playing career, Thompson graduated from Harding (Ark.) University in 1992.
Damon Magazu – Safeties
Damon Magazu, who will oversee the UNLV safeties, comes to Las Vegas after spending the last two seasons at Oklahoma where he helped coach the Sooner secondary as a graduate assistant. Prior to that, Magazu was a defensive GA at his alma mater, East Carolina. A two-time All-Conference USA defensive back, he started 37 games for the Pirates from 2010-13 and earned his bachelor's degree from ECU in 2013.
Tre Watson – Cornerbacks
Tre Watson will coach the Rebel cornerbacks starting in 2020 after spending the last two years as a defensive graduate assistant at Oregon, including for last season's Duck squad that led the league in interceptions en route to winning the Pac-12 Conference championship and Rose Bowl. A cornerback in college, the Seattle native originally played at West Hills College in Coalinga, California, and then Central Washington before transferring to the University of Washington and played in 25 games in the 2012 and '13 seasons for the Huskies. He earned his bachelor's degree from UW in 2014.
Matt Fyle – Head Strength & Conditioning Coach
Matt Fyle comes to Las Vegas after having just completed his first season as associate director of strength and conditioning at the University of Maryland. Previous to that he worked with
Marcus Arroyo at the University of Oregon in 2018 and had previous stops at the University of Georgia and with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. Fyle spent three years in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division with a deployment to Iraq in 2004. He holds multiple professional certifications such as SCCC with the CSCCa, CSCS with the NSCA, USAW, First Aid and CPR certification.
