LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's basketball will open Mountain West conference play this weekend with a pair of games against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Saturday and Monday in the Cox Pavilion. Both games will have a 1:30 pm tip. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MW has switched to a 20-game schedule with teams playing back-to-back games against each opponent, with half the games on the road and half at home. Â
Because of the region's COVID-19 situation, fans are not allowed to attend. There will be a live video stream available on the Mountain West Network, featuring the call of Ben Wilson and Jeremy Roach (color analyst) on Saturday, while Ashly Dickinson will serve as color analyst on Monday's broadcast. Wyatt Tomchek will provide play-by-play for the Lady Rebels' radio broadcast. Both the video stream and the radio broadcast can be accessed at UNLVRebels.com. Â
UNLV Game Notes Â
♦  The two-game series will be the second and third straight games to be played against the Cowgirls in Las Vegas. The teams met just once a season ago, a 65-53 win by the Lady Rebels in the Cox Pavilion.
♦  Not only will this be the first road game of the season for Wyoming, it will also be the first time the Cowgirls will not have played in front of a crowd after averaging over 1,000 fans in its first two games. UNLV meanwhile already has one road win on its resume this season (at CSU Fullerton on Dec. 2). All three games for the Lady Rebels have played so far this season have not allowed fans to attend.
♦  Under new head coach Lindy La Rocque, the Lady Rebels have made the three-point ball a bigger factor in their offense, as they currently rank third in the league in three-pointers per game, while senior guard Bailey Thomas is sixth in the nation in three-point percentage at 75%.
♦  UNLV is one of the youngest and most inexperienced teams in the nation. The 11-player Lady Rebels roster is the sixth-youngest team in the nation with an average age of 19.5, while they are the only team in the nation with at least 90% of its roster that started the season with just one career total Division I start.
