Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Rebels Fall On Boise State Senior Night

UNLV clinches top-five finish despite the loss.

BOISE, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) -  UNLV could not overcome Boise State's five seniors on the Broncos' Senior Night, as three of the five combined for 54 points, outscoring UNLV's outstanding senior duo of Rodjanae Wade and LaTecia Smith (40 total points), while the rest of the Lady Rebels only managed 12 total points in an 81-52 Mountain West women's basketball road loss Monday from ExtraMile Arena.

Though the Lady Rebels dropped to 9-8 in the MW with the setback, they still clinched fifth place in the conference standings and a bye in next week's Mountain West Tournament, which will be held in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV is locked into the fifth seed, and will face the fourth seed, either Wyoming or San Jose State, on Monday, March 2 at 2:30 pm.

Thanks to Smith's 4-for-4 start from the floor, UNLV stayed with the host Broncos in the first quarter, closing out the opening period on an 8-3 run to make it a 16-12 contest.

THE TURNING POINT: Boise State took control with a 19-6 run to open the second quarter. The Broncos outscored UNLV by 15 in the second quarter and 10 in the third for a 63-34 lead with 10 minutes to play.

STAT OF THE GAME: Boise State shot 9-of-22 (40.9%) from three-point range, while UNLV made just 1-of-3 attempts.

LADY REBEL NOTES

* - Wade, who ranks third in the nation in double-doubles, recorded her 19th of the season, which now ties her for second all-time at UNLV along with former standout Pauline Jordan, and is just one away from the school record.

* - She finished with 26 points, just one off her career-high, and added 11 rebounds, including four on the offensive side for the nation's top offensive rebounder.

* - UNLV shot 35.3% (18-of-51) from the floor and was outrebounded by a 34-29 margin on the boards.

NEXT TIME OUT: UNLV hosts San Jose State Thursday on the Lady Rebels' Senior Night. The game will tip-off at 6 pm in the Cox Pavilion, and the four seniors (Wade, Smith, Haley Rydalch, Mara Kemmer) will be honored pregame, while a postgame Senior Celebration will be held and is open to all fans with a $5 admission.
