Rebel Men Land Five Top-Eight Finishes Before Pool Shuts Down

A broken water main caused the University of Houston to shut down after this morning's prelims session on day two of the 2020 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

HOUSTON (UNLVRebels.com) - A broken water main caused the University of Houston to shut down after this morning's prelims session on day two of the 2020 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships. The Conference has decided to allow this morning's individual events to stand and to score as final results. The exceptions to this will be the 200 free relay and diving, both of which will be contested tomorrow at the CRWC Natatoriu

Day three will begin Friday at 10:30am (CT) with the 200 free relay. The individual events (400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back) will follow after as timed finals, the 400 free relay will finish out the day. Diving will be running concurrently during the swimming events. The team scores will be official after Friday's session.

THE RUNDOWN - MEN:

*Kicking off the meet, freshman Christopher Mykkanen won the 500 free with a swim of 4:21.86, senior Hayden Hemmens finished fourth (4:23.41), freshman Cameron Castro placed 11th (4:28.42), freshman Panos Bolanos followed in 13th (4:29.46), and sophomore Wyatt Marsalek took 21st (4:35.23).

*Freshman Ogi Maric placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.72, sophomore Hayden Cornellison finished eighth (1:48.77), sophomore Ivan Zukov took 12th (1:49.44), followed by junior Sean Gage in 13th (1:49.48), and sophomore Jack Binder touched 21st (1:51.07).

*Junior Richard Szilagyi placed fourth in the 50 free with a swim of 20.02, sophomore Michal Cuckanow finished 18th (20.46), and sophomore Casey McEuen followed in 22nd (20.66).

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebel men will begin at 10:30am (CT) Thursday.
