LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 4-1 win over New Mexico State on a windy Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels (1-2), however, had to rally after the Aggies (0-1) grabbed the doubles point by taking two of three matches. UNLV scored at the top while NMSU won on court three and then grabbed the team point with a 7-5 win at the second spot.
In singles play, the Rebels won the first four completed matches in straight sets to clinch while the remaining two contests were halted.
NET NOTES: UNLV has now won 14 consecutive home matches and 26 of its last 28 staged in Las Vegas … Because of pandemic, Friday marked the first UNLV tennis dual match played on campus since March 8, 2020.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Eric Samuelsson moved up to the top spot in singles and won in straight sets after also pairing with
Clayton Alenik for a win at No. 1 doubles.
QUOTABLE: "It was great to finally get back to our home courts. Playing some different doubles combinations, we lost a close doubles point but the energy and commitment in singles play was great."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will close out the weekend with a doubleheader Saturday, hosting Montana starting at 10 a.m. followed by a meeting with Weber State at 3 p.m.
