FORT COLLINS, CO (UNLVRebels.com) – For the third time during Mountain West play, the UNLV women's soccer team came up short in overtime as the Rebels fell at Colorado State 2-1 Sunday in Fort Collins. UNLV junior midfielder
Lourdes Bosch scored the equalizer with a free kick goal in the 81st minute to force the extra period, but the Rams scored the golden goal in the 98th minute to come away with the victory.
The loss ends a two-game win streak by UNLV, who moved to 10-7 overall and 3-5 in the Mountain West. With the win Colorado State (6-5-2, 5-3-0) extended its win streak to five games.
The Scarlet and Gray had previously suffered heartbreakers in overtime against Air Force - a 4-3 double overtime defeat - and a 1-0 OT nailbiter against San Diego State at home.
The two squads were evenly matched throughout as the Rebels and Rams traded possession in the midfield for much of the first and second halves. UNLV edged out CSU 13-12 in shots, marking the sixth time in eight league contests the Rebels have bested their opponent in the category.
Rebel keeper
Riley Liebsack made two big saves to keep the game scoreless until the Rams broke through with a header goal in the 71st minute. Ten minutes later, UNLV drew a foul about five yards outside the right side of the box and Bosch lined up to take the kick, trailing 1-0. The junior nailed it perfectly, sending it to the upper left corner out of the reach of the Ram keeper to tie the game at one. The two teams again traded possession in the overtime period and it looked as if the match was headed to a second overtime until CSU's Kristen Noonen ended the game just the end of the first extra time.
UNLV will be back at Peter Johann Field next weekend for its final home contests of the regular season. The Rebels host San Jose State and Fresno State on Friday and Sunday, respectively, with Sunday serving as Senior Day.
