THURSDAY'S PREVIEW...
Hosting its second game in just six days, UNLV (0-6/0-2) celebrates Homecoming vs. San José  State (3-4/1-2) Thursday night ... While Homecoming was not celebrated last fall because of Covid, the Rebels hold a 26-26 record in the traditional games ... In recognition of Hilinski's Hope hosting the College Football Mental Health Initiative, UNLV is wearing special green ribbon stickers on its helmets ... The six opponents who have played UNLV in 2021 boast an eye-popping combined record of 32-8 ... Charles Williams heads in with the most career net rushing yards gained on the FBS level (3,565) among all current players. Liberty's Joshua Mack has more career rush yards but a majority of them were gained on the FCS level before transferring to his current school ... Dating back to last season, UNLV PK Daniel Gutierrez has made 14 consecutive field goals, which is tied for the fourth-longest streak in the nation. The former walk-on needs one more to set the UNLV all-time record (currently tied with Jim Cook, who hit 14 straight in 1987).

REBELS vs. SPARTANS NOTES... 
SJSU leads the all-time series 17-7-1 but the teams have split the last four games ... The last matchup played in Las Vegas resulted in a thrilling 38-35 Rebel victory in the program's final appearance at its 49-year home venue Sam Boyd Stadium ... UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo lettered three times at quarterback for the Spartans between 1998-2002, passing for a total of 4,628 yards and 28 touchdowns for SJSU (did not face UNLV) ... Last year's game in San Jose made Arroyo the third UNLV head coach to face his alma mater while leading the Rebels as original coach Bill Ireland went 2-2 vs. UNR from 1969-72 and Tony Knap went 2-0 vs. Idaho in 1977 and '78 ... Arroyo spent five seasons coaching at SJSU, which included four years (2005-08) along with current Spartans' HC Brent Brennan on Dick Tomey's staff: student asst. in 2003, GA in '05, QBs in '06 and Co-OC/QBs from 2007-08 ... Second-year UNLV LB coach Kenwick Thompson oversaw the Spartans' LB/DL from 2001-06 ... SJSU DL coach Joe Seumalo was a member of the UNLV staff in 2015 ... Dan Godfrey, the father of UNLV TE Daniel Godfrey Jr., was a two-time All-Big West LB for the Spartans in 1993 and '94.
