LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Incarnate Word Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels (6-10, 2-7) broke through the Cardinals' (5-8-2, 4-4-1) stingy backline in the first half as senior
Aedon Kyra gave the Scarlet and Gray side a 1-0 lead with a 31st-minute goal after being fed inside the box by his senior counterpart
Marco Gonzalez. Kyra's team-best seventh score of the season came against a UIW defense that had only let one ball slip into the net in its previous three games.
In the second half, Incarnate Word flipped the script with two goals to overcome the UNLV defense's first-half shutout anchored by junior goalkeeper Miguel Duenas, Jr. The Cardinals pulled away with a brace from Koen Vos, who netted the equalizer in the 61st minute and then had the go-ahead score in the 86th minute.
UNLV will continue its three-game homestand with a match Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. UT Rio Grande Valley.
