Rebels Defeated In Five Sets By SDSU Monday Night

Burt, Capllonch and Hayden all recorded double-doubles.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV fifth-year senior Mariena Hayden had 16 kills and 12 digs for her third straight double-double, but the Rebels were defeated in five sets by San Diego State Monday night at Cox Pavilion (25-22, 16-25, 11-25, 25-23, 15-11).

Junior Shelby Capllonch and senior Lauryn Burt also had double-doubles for the Rebels (16-8, 7-6). Capllonch recorded 10 kills and had a match-high 17 digs, while Burt had a match-high 26 assists with 12 digs.

UNLV led in most team statistical categories, recording 61 kills to SDSU's 50 and outhit the Aztecs .361 to .205. The Rebels also had 59 digs to SDSU's 45 and led in total blocks 9-5.

Zoi Faki led SDSU (7-18, 4-9) in kills with 16, Ashley Vanderpan had 20 assists, while Natalie Smith had 14 digs.

UNLV and SDSU split the regular season as the Rebels swept the Aztecs in San Diego on Oct. 5.


NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will be on the road for its next three matches: at Fresno State on Thursday, Nov. 4, at New Mexico on Thursday, Nov. 11 and at Air Force on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Rebels will return home to the Cox Pavilion to host San Jose State on Thursday, Nov. 18.

  • Hayden is No. 1 all-time at UNLV in career service aces (322; 206 ahead of second place) and kills (1,813). She is No. 3 in career digs with 1,324.

  • UNLV concluded its Spring 2021 season with a record-breaking campaign that saw it win the Mountain West title, going undefeated in regular-season play (12-0) and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team finished the season 13-1 overall.

  • UNLV is led by fourth-year head coach Dawn Sullivan, who was honored following the Spring 2021 season with the MW's Coach of the Year award.
