KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (UNLVRebels.com) - New school records in the men's 200 medley relay and 100 breaststroke headlined seven top-5 finishes by UNLV men's and women's swimming Friday on the second day of the Tennessee Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Additionally, the Rebels compiled nine NCAA 'B' cut times on the day on the way to a combined 15 top-15 finishes among the men's and women's squads.
REBEL RECORDS:
*UNLV's 200 medley relay 'A' team – comprising junior
Panos Bolanos, senior
Sam Willstrop, sophomore
George Ratiu and senior
Reece Hemmens – placed third and inched just ahead the previous top program mark by two-hundredths of a second with a time of 1:25.31. This broke the previous fastest time in school history set in 2014 (1.25.33) by former Rebel All-Americans Henrique Machado, David Szele, Dillon Virva and Guilherme Passos.
*The other Rebel record came via Willstrop's individual fifth-place finish in the 100 breast with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 52.74* in the 100 breast. That swim by Willstrop overcame the school's past top time of 52.80 accomplished by former Scarlet and Gray standout Andrew Morrell in the 2010-11 season.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*Bolanos grabbed a second-place finish in the 100 back as well, topping his previous 'B' cut this season with a mark of 46.85*. With his time, Bolanos bested his previous personal best by .14 seconds to remain at third on UNLV's all-time record list.
*The Rebels' top-5 finishes continued as Bujak (3:49.46*) touched second in the 400 IM with 'second fastest time in program history and a 'B' cut. Bujak's mark was 1.12 seconds faster than his previous personal best.
*Chalking up a Scarlet and Gray third-place finish in the 200 free, junior
Chris Mykkanen reached the wall with a 'B' cut of 1:35.26*. He took over third all-time on UNLV's record chart for that event.
*Competing in the 800 free relay, the Rebels' 'A' unit of Bolanos, Mykkanen, Castro and Bujak contributed a fourth-place effort after posting a time of 6:28.51.
*In the 100 fly, Ratiu mirrored his prelim finish in the finals where he took fifth place in both on another 'Rebel B' qualifying mark. The 47.17* swam by Ratiu gave him the fifth fastest time in school history.
*A day after assisting in UNLV's men's 400 medley relay record, freshman
Adnan Beji placed eighth in the 100 breast a brief moment after Willstrop with a time of 53.30*. Beji also achieved a NCAA 'B' qualifying mark during prelims, as he swam a 53.10* for the fourth-best mark ever swam by a Rebel.
*Adding onto the group of top-15 finishes for the Rebels, junior Cam Castro (1:37.92) and sophomore
Cooper Kiel (1:38.17) placed 13th and 15th in the 200 free, respectively.
*Junior
Jack Binder (54.42) finished 14th in the 100 breast - after he had a 'B' cut time of 54.18* in prelims - while Mickelson (3:55.05) came in 12th in the 400 IM to complete UNLV's top-15 finishes on the men's side.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*Super senior Kate Afanasyeva (53.38*) captured the highest finish for the Rebel women on the day with her fifth-place and 'B' cut performance in the 100 back.
*Rounding out the complete UNLV list of 'B' qualifying times, sophomore
Calysta Bartlett clocked a 1:01.21* in the 100 breast prelims and then followed that up with a 15th-place finish (1:01.78) in the finals. Bartlett slid into third all-time on the Rebels' time chart for that event.
*Senior
Gabby Lizzul came up just 0.16 seconds shy of another Scarlet and Gray 'B' mark, finishing 13th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:17.46. After having added a new personal best during prelims (4:20.54), Lizzul had more to offer with an improvement of 3.08 seconds in the finals to record the fifth-fastest mark in program history.
