Fehervari Joins Rebel Staff as Assistant Coach

UNLV's former All-Mountain West swimmer returns to her alma mater

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV swimming and diving head coach Ben Loorz has announced the addition of former Rebel swimmer Julia Fehervari to his staff as an assistant coach.

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to return to UNLV," said Fehervari. "I owe a big thank you to Coach Ben for believing in me and helping make my dream of becoming a Division I swim coach come true. I'm really excited to get to work and help our men's and women's teams continue their success."

A native of Bekescsaba, Hungary, Fehervari brings previous collegiate coaching experience to her alma mater as she served as a graduate assistant coach at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from 2018-20. In her time with the Vikings, she primarily coached the sprinters and had one swimmer earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Championships.

Prior to joining UNLV's staff, Fehervari spent 2020-21 as an assistant coach for local Las Vegas swim club Sandpipers of Nevada, which ranks top-10 nationally and sent multiple swimmers to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her experience at the club level also included time as an assistant coach for the Sioux Falls Swim Team during her two years in South Dakota.

"Julia has done a fantastic job the past five years of improving her craft as a coach. At every step of the process, she impressed us with her passion for the sport and for UNLV. She knows what it takes to succeed here in Las Vegas, and we are excited to have her back as an active member of UNLV Swimming and Diving," said Loorz.

During her swimming career for the Rebels (2012-16), Fehervari earned Mountain West All-Conference individual honors in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free, as well as CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention and Academic All-MW awards. The former Scarlet and Gray sprint specialist also garnered All-MW recognition with UNLV's 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 400 medley relay squads.

One of the fastest sprinters to ever wear the UNLV cap, Fehervari still ranks second all-time in the 50 free (22.68) and sixth all-time in the 100 free (49.75) in program history. Additionally, she formed part of the Rebels' 200 free relay team that set the current school record during the 2014-15 season.

Along with her achievements in the pool as a student-athlete for the Scarlet and Gray, Fehervari was also a student assistant in her fifth year on campus. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in hospitality management from UNLV in 2016 and a Master's degree in sport administration and leadership from Augustana in 2020.
