LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV true freshman quarterback Cameron Friel was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

The first Rebel to earn the MW honor, which debuted this season, Friel led his team to its first victory of the season, 31-17, at New Mexico on Saturday.

The Hawai'i native completed 20-of-33 attempts for 227 yards vs. the Lobos. His night included a 15-yard touchdown to Marcus Phillips Jr. and then a 75-yard scoring strike to Kyle Williams.

Friel's 63.8 completion percentage in 2021 is on track to break Omar Clayton's school single-season record by a freshman (61.1 in 2007).
