UNLV and Texas Tech meet at high noon Sunday in Canyon, Texas

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV freshman Kenadee Winfrey lands a pre-holiday homecoming as the Lady Rebels meet Texas Tech Sunday, Dec. 12. The game will be played at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas, on the campus of NCAA Division II West Texas A&M. 

UNLV aims to extend its three-game winning streak in which it has averaged a 22-point margin of victory. The Lady Raiders look to rebound from a 65-55 loss to No. 20 Georgia.

Winfrey led Canyon High School to a pair of district championships and regional quarterfinal appearances in 2018 and 2020. Her father, Todd, completed his first season as head football coach at Canyon High School after serving 21 years as an assistant.

West Texas A&M women's basketball was formerly headed by second-year Texas Tech coach Krista Gerlich, who won three conference championships and reached the Elite Eight during her seven seasons in Canyon.

  • UNLV and Texas Tech will meet for the fifth time on a neutral site, the First United Bank Center on the campus of West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
  • The arena in Canyon is 107 miles due North of the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock.
  • Texas Tech head coach Krista Gerlich's first head coaching position was at West Texas A&M. She coached the Lady Buffs for seven seasons (2007-2013), counting a 168-53 record, earning three Sun Belt conference championships and reaching the NCAA DII Elite Eight in 2009. Gerlich then took the head coach position at UT Arlington from 2013 to 2020.
