LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV senior Eric Samuelsson has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the third time in the last year, the league announced Wednesday.
With a combined record of 5-0 playing at the top position in both singles and doubles, Samuelsson helped UNLV sweep three opponents during the last weekend of January. Today's honor was the first awarded by the league this month.
The native of Ahus, Sweden, teamed with Clayton Alenik at the No. 1 doubles position for three wins. In singles, Samuelsson downed New Mexico State's Nicolas Buitrago, 6-4, 6-4, and Weber State's Kris Van Wyk, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3.
Samuelsson also won the award on March 4 and Feb. 12, 2020, before the season was halted because of the pandemic.
UNLV (3-2) is off until taking on Wichita State in Denver on February 13.
