LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's swimming and diving team placed a program record 15 individuals on the 2021 Mountain West Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team, as announced Monday by the league. With their highest total to date, the Rebels surpassed their previous high of 13 individuals MW All-Conference honorees in their 2005 championship season.
 
Leading the way for the Scarlet and Gray in three events each were Kate Afanasyeva (50 free; 100 fly; 100 back), juniors Kristina Schneider (50 free; 100 free; 200 free), Julia Filippova (100 free; 200 free; 500 free) and Teneka Ash (1650 free; 500 free; 200 fly), and freshmen Ruby Howell (200 IM; 400 IM; 200 breaststroke) and Calysta Bartlett (100 breaststroke; 200 breaststroke; 200 IM).
 
Joining the group of Rebels with the recognition in multiple events, juniors Gabby Lizzul (200 fly; 400 IM), Carissa Armijio (500 free; 200 fly), Kacey Kiuchi (100 back; 200 back) and Montse Moreno along with freshman Tosia Iwanowska were listed with two top-eight finishes each.
 
Senior Caitlyn Schreiber earned the honor in the 50 free, senior Lauren Smith added hers in the 200 free for UNLV. Rounding out the Scarlet and Gray individual top-8 performances, freshman Sarah Koopmans was named to the list in the 100 fly and her Rebel newcomer counterpart Victoria Gutierrez appeared for the 500 free.
 
In addition, the Rebel championship-clinching crew of Filippova, Smith and Schneider joined freshman Malia Fernandez on the list for the 400 free relay. Meanwhile, Schneider, Fernandez and Schreiber were accompanied by senior Eva Kim for the 200 free relay accolades. Finalizing the relay honors were UNLV's quartets in the 200 medley relay  Afanasyeva, Iwanowska, Koopman, Schreiber) 400 medley relay (Afanasyeva, Bartlett, Koopmans, Schneider) and 800 free relay (Schneider, Gutierrez, Filippova, Smith).
