TEMPE, Arizona (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team played its fourth Pac-12 Conference power opponent of the season Sunday afternoon and fell 7-0 to No. 17 Arizona State at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
The Rebels, continuing to play without their top player
Alex Kobelt, fell to 3-8 while the Sun Devils improved to 12-3.
The hosts opened up a 1-0 lead by taking the first two completed doubles matches and then took five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Only
Anton Ornberg got to a third stanza for UNLV but ultimately fell to George Stoupe on court four in a super-tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).
QUOTABLE: "Even though the doubles point didn't go our way, we competed well there. We had some positives in singles play but overall, ASU was just too good today."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: After three straight road matches, UNLV hosts BYU on Saturday starting with doubles play at 11 a.m.
