Rebels Drop Road Match At San Diego State

UNLV fell 1-0 to the Aztecs Saturday night in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer battled San Diego State Saturday night in San Diego, but came up short in the narrow 1-0 loss to the Aztecs. The Rebels moved to 2-2-1 on the year.

Like it has been all season, the UNLV defense was impressive, holding one of the top offenses in the Mountain West to just one goal and 10 total shots. The Aztecs had entered the game in first in several offensive categories, including goals and shots per game, and the Rebels held them well under their season averages Saturday night. Halfway through the Mountain West regular season, UNLV ranks second in goals allowed and goals-against-average and first in shutouts.

In a back-and-forth contest, the Aztecs broke through with the lone score of the night in the 28th minute.

While SDSU out-shot the Rebels 6-2 in the first half, UNLV came out aggressively in the second, recording seven shots to San Diego State's four. The Rebels continued to put pressure on the Aztecs up until the final whistle as four of the seven second-half shots came in the final 13 minutes. Sophomore Izzy Perez and redshirt senior Ariana Reyes each recorded two shots apiece.

UP NEXT: After three games on the road, UNLV will return home for its next three, starting next Friday, March 26 as the Rebels host San Jose State at 7 p.m. at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
