UNLV Finishes Seventh, Fuller Tied For Ninth On Final Day In Tucson

Senior Samantha Fuller records fourth top-12 finish this spring, Rebels finish in seventh

TUCSON, AZ (UNLVRebels.com) - Wrapping up a three-tournament stretch in the state of Arizona, the UNLV women's golf team played its final round of the Mountain View Invitational Sunday at The Preserve Golf Club in Tucson. The Rebels finished in a tie for seventh at 21-over 885 after shooting an 18-over as a team in the final round.

Senior Samantha Fuller was the highest Rebel finisher in a tie for ninth at 2-under 214 for the tournament after a final-round 74. The Surrey, England native has now finished in the top-12 in all four tournaments she has played in this spring. Fuller sunk 10 birdies over the three rounds and has shot par or better in eight of the 12 rounds she's competed in this year.

Junior Veronica Joels came in a tie for 26th at 5-over 221, followed by sophomore Elina Saksa in a tie for 42nd at 9-over 225. Freshmen Madeleine Laux and Gracie Olkowski tied for 46th and 61st, respectively, at 11-over 227 and 20-over 236.

Day three brought some dramatics in the team competition as Texas led after two rounds and started the day with a seven-shot lead over Iowa State. Oklahoma State, who was in third at 10-under, carded a 10-under round Sunday to overtake a Longhorns team that shot a final-round even, giving the Cowboys a two-shot victory. Behind Texas, Houston came in third at 15-under, followed by Iowa State in fourth at 8-under and Baylor in fifth at 10-over.

Oklahoma State's Maja Stark was clinging to a one-shot lead at 8-under after the first two rounds and shot a 3-under 69 to earn medalist honors by three stroke at 11-under. Houston had three golfers in the next three slots with Zoe Slaughter in second at 8-under, Karen Fredgaard in third at 7-under and Anne Norman tied for fourth with San Jose State's Kajsa Arwefjall at 5-under.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels will have a couple weeks off before returning to action at Oregon's Silverado Showdown, April 5-7.
