Duneas Jr Ranks Among Nation's Leaders

Sophomore picks up a second weekly honor.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV goalkeeper Miguel Duenas Jr. has been named WAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced, for games played from March 15-21. It is the second honor of the season for Duenas Jr. as well.

The Las Vegas native earned the award after posting his third shutout in just his fourth career collegiate game in UNLV's 1-0 win over Utah Valley on March 19. Against the Wolverines, Duenas saved all five shots on goal he faced while the Rebel defense held Utah Valley to only 10 total shots.

NCAA RANKINGS: Duenas Jr. currently ranks in the top 10 in NCAA Division I soccer in both goals-against average (7th) and save percentage (10th) in games played through March 21. Following another shutout victory, 1-0 over California Baptist Monday afternoon, he has lowered his GAA to 0.18 and improved his save percentage to 0.950. Both marks easily pace the WAC as well. In 504 total minutes played, Duenas has allowed just one goal, stopping 19 total shots on goal faced this season while posting four shutouts. UNLV is 3-0-2 in the five games he has started this season, and he is the first Rebel goalie to allow just one goal or less over a five-game stretch since the 1985 season during a five-game shutout streak.

REGIONAL RANKINGS: UNLV also moved up one spot in this week's United Soccer Coaches Far West Region rankings, as the Rebels climbed to No. 8.

NEXT TIME OUT: UNLV is off until next week when it faces new WAC member Dixie State on Wednesday, March 31 at 4 pm in St. George, Utah.
