LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's soccer head coach BJ Craig announced Monday the addition of Marc Ybarra to his staff as assistant coach.

"We are very excited and grateful to have Marc Ybarra join us," said Craig. "Marc is top as a player and person, he is passionate about the game and coaching, has great skill sets, and will be another great addition to our staff and UNLV."

Ybarra joins the Rebel program with over four years of professional experience as a player in the USL Championship, including his current club Las Vegas Lights FC, Rhode Island FC (2024-25) and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (2022-23). Following his playing career, he founded his own company, Committed Soccer Training, aiming to develop players striving to reach higher levels in the sport by offering consultation services.

"Marc is coming in from a professional playing background through the college pathway and has a great understanding of what it takes to develop and play at each level. He has been honing his coaching skills while still playing and he will bring a wealth of experience to our student-athletes that will be great for individual player development and coaching within the team. He has been a strong leader in every team he has played in, was a highly decorated collegiate player at Michigan, and he will be a great mentor to help our student-athletes continue to grow and develop as people and leaders," said Craig.

During his playing career, Ybarra accumulated 128 appearances while going on to lead Pittsburgh (2023) and Rhode Island in single season appearances. He combined to capture two trophies for the two teams in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, serving as captain both years. 

In two seasons with the Riverhounds, Ybarra made 65 appearances. He led the club to its first regular season championship in 2023 while being the only player to appear in all 34 league matches that year.

A former student-athlete, Ybarra played collegiate soccer at Michigan, where he was a captain for three seasons and won the program's first Big Ten Championship in 2017. A four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and 2020-21 Senior Class Award finalist, he went on to graduate with his bachelor's degree in business administration in 2021.

He finished his Wolverine career with 91 appearances, nine goals and second all-time at Michigan in career assists with 24. He was also named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year in 2021, a Big Ten All-Tournament Team selection in 2021 and a Big Ten All-Freshman Team honoree in 2027.
