LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving saw the duo of sophomore Christopher Mykkanen and junior Teneka Ash earn Olympic Trial cuts for their respective countries at the UNLV Long Course Meter Invitational held Wednesday at Jim Reitz Pool.
 
Mykkanen, a product of Newport Beach, California, achieved his first U.S. Olympic Trial cut in the 400-meter free with a mark of 3:54.10. which ranks as the 12th fastest in the U.S. during the 2020-21 season since September. Meanwhile, Mykkanen automatically advances to Wave II of U.S. Olympic Trials taking place from June 13-20, which features the faster swimmers out of the two-tier system created in its current format in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Additionally, Rebel women's junior standout Ash picked up an Australian Olympic Trial cut in the 800-meter free. A native of Wakerley, Queensland, Australia, Ash clocked in at 9:07.33 in the 800m free to qualify for her homeland's Olympic Trials set for June 12-17.
 
BYU's Tama Tuitama in the 200-meter individual medley and Isaac Gwin from Air Force in the 100-meter back rounded out the other cuts reached at the invite, which had three of the four teams competing post a qualifying time.
