TUCSON, AZ (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team closed out Arizona's Wildcat Invite at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson with the final round on Tuesday, carding a three-round score of 39-over 903 to finish in 11th. Senior
Samantha Fuller, who entered the day in a tie for 10th at even, shot her best single-round score of the season of 3-under 69 to finish alone in ninth place.
Fuller's 69 on Tuesday also matches her single-round low as a Rebel. The Surrey, England, native had a strong two days in Tucson, turning in a bogey-free round to open the event and dropping 10 birdies total over the three rounds.
Coming in behind Fuller for the Rebels was junior
Veronica Joels, who finished in a tie for 26th at 5-over 221 after an even round of 72 on Tuesday. Freshman
Madeleine Laux tied for 63rd at 16-over 232, followed by sophomore
Elina Saksa in a tie for 70th 22-over 238 and freshman Graci Olkowski in 78th at 41-over 257.
Texas was the wire-to-wire winner, running away from the rest of the field with a 14-under in the third round alone to double its final tally to an impressive 28-under, taking first by 25 strokes over second-place Oklahoma State (-3, 861). USC finished in third at 2-under 862, followed by Oregon in fourth at 2-over 866 and host Arizona in fifth at 14-over 878.
Four of five Longhorns finished in the top six, with Sara Kouskova taking medalist honors, also wire-to-wire, at 10-under 206. She bested teammate Agathe Laisne and Oregon's Hsin-Yu Lu, who finished tied for second at 7-under 209, followed by USC's Allisen Corpuz in fourth at 6-under 210 and Texas' Ashleigh Park in fifth at 5-under 211.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels will be staying Arizona as they head up the road to Mesa to play in Arizona State's Clover Up tournament, March 12-14. Play gets underway Friday morning.
