LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Cassondra Hall and
Jonon Young were named the Mountain West's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, following their performances at the UNLV Spring Opener at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field.
Hall was part of three event wins on the day for the Scarlet & Gray. The native of Warner Robins, Georgia, clocked a time of 23.47 to claim the 200m, while she helped the 4x100m relay (45.18) and 4x400m relay (3:40.89) to first-place finishes.
Young was victorious in both the long jump and triple jump with personal-best marks of 20-3.75w (6.19m) and 43-8.5w (13.32). Moreover, the Carson, California, native's distance in the triple jump moved her into second in the program's all-time outdoor performance list.
IN THE RANKINGS:
-With Hall's help, both the 4x100m relay (45.18) and 4x400m relay (3:40.89) are ranked first overall in the nation.
-Hall sits second overall in the nation in the 200m (23.47).
-Young sits first overall in the long jump (20-3.75/6.19m) and seventh in the triple jump behind a wind-legal 40-9.75 (12.44m).
-Overall, UNLV has nine student-athletes ranked in the top-10 in a total of eight events. Besides Young's pair of first-place showings,
Alia Scott sits first in the 400m hurdles (1:01.07).
