UNLV football marked the end of its fourth week of practice with a Saturday scrimmage at a windy Rebel Park.
With just one week left of the spring session, the team put in a solid three hours of work before a host of former lettermen invited to take in the action.
A selection of comments to the media following the scrimmage:
Head Coach Marcus Arroyo:
"Defense did a good job starting fast, holding the offense off. Then seeing the offense try to fight their way through it -- and did. Defense came out and did a nice job early. Offense did a nice job later in the scrimmage, which was really nice to see. That's kind of the ebbs and flows of camp. That's the reality of getting guys into live situations -- see how they react playing in real environments.
"We've made huge strides but we're not near where we're going to be."
Offensive Coordinator Glenn Thomas:
"A lot of guys got a ton of reps -- that's the biggest thing. Especially for the quarterbacks, the more reps that they get means they see a variety of defenses and at the end of the day, that's what you want."
Defensive Coordinator Peter Hansen:
"We started out really hot on defense. Obviously experienced a little bit of a lull when the offense got some momentum, which is good. The best teams always have some give and take. And for us, we had to rebound -- finish strong. So that mindset, that part of the game, showed up today, which is really good.
"When you really count the reps you're getting up close to probably 1,000 reps in spring camp – that's close to a season. We expect big -- and we are seeing big – improvement on defense."
