NAPA, California (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team wrapped up the third and final round of the Silverado Showdown Wednesday at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California, finishing in a tie for 11th at 46-over 914.
Junior
Veronica Joels, who started the day in a tie for 31st, shot up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 17th after shooting a season-best single round score of 3-under 69 with five birdies on the day. The score also matched her career low for a single round. The Vegas native finished at 5-over 221 for the tournament.
Sophomore
Elina Saksa finished in a tie for 26th at 9-over 225, followed by freshman Madeline Laux in a tie for 44th at 14-over 230. Fellow freshman
Gracie Olkowski came in 72nd at 30-over 250 and senior
Samantha Fuller did not compete in Wednesday's final round.
UCLA, who led after each of the first two rounds and had a four-shot lead going into the final 18, was not able to hold off cross-town rival No. 13 USC as the Trojans impressively shot a 7-under 281 to win the team title at 2-under 862. The Bruins finished in second at 3-over 867, followed by Oregon State in third at 21-over 885 and Oregon and Arizona State in a tie for fourth at 22-over 886.
Oregon State's Ellie Slama was the wire-to-wire individual winner, just barely holding off USC's Allisen Corpuz on the final day to win by one stroke at 8-under 208. Corpuz put the pressure on Slama with a 4-under 68 Wednesday to finish in second at 7-under 209. Three Bruins rounded out the top five as Emma Spitz and Yuki Yoshihara tied for third at 2-under 214 and Annabel Wilson finished in fifth at 1-under 215.
UP NEXT: UNLV will have a quick turnaround to play in its final regular season tournament, New Mexico's Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm Invitational,, April 11-12 in Albuquerque. The Mountain West Conference Championships are set for April 20-21 in Rancho Mirage, CA.
NOTES:
• This is the third straight season the Rebels competed in the event (the 2020 tournament was canceled) and the fourth time overall. The tournament was co-hosted by the Pac-12's Oregon and Colorado
• The Rebels have finished in the top five in two of six and in the top 10 in four of six tournaments this spring
• UNLV has five returners from last year along with two freshmen newcomers -

Amy Bush-Herzer is in her 10th year at the helm of the program. She has led her team to a conference championship four times.
