BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV volunteer assistant coach
Kasia Wasick and distance standout
Vuk Celic each completed their respective freestyle events Friday at the European Championships.
Wasick, who set a new 50m free record for her country Poland this week, posted an Olympic 'A' cut with a time of 24.31 in the 100m free prelims before coming just two spots short of advancing to the finals with a 10th-place (24.47) finish in the semifinal. The mark improved upon her previously achieved 'B' qualifying time by 0.35 seconds ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games, which will mark her fourth time competing on the big stage.
Competing for his native land Serbia, Celic rounded out his week at the European meet by placing sixth in heat No. 3 and 29th overall in the 800m free (8:09.65). The race served as a final tune-up in the event for Celic before he represents the Serbian national team in Tokyo.
The weeklong European Championship competition will carry over to the weekend for Wasick, as she is scheduled to swim in the women's 50m fly prelims Saturday at 1 am Pacific. Fans can follow the action via the LEN European Aquatics
results and
live stream.
