LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball's
Austin Kryszczuk was named to Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-America Team.
Kryszczuk is the fourth Rebel dating back to the 2016 campaign to be selected a CBN Freshman All-American, joining Kyle Isbel (2016), Bryson Stott (2017) and
Edarian Williams (2019).
The 2019 Centennial High School graduate started 32 contests, with 31 of those in the outfield and one as the designated hitter. Kryszczuk concluded the year with a .361 batting average and .457 slugging percentage which places him 100th and 108th overall in the NCAA rankings (as of June 8). Those impressive figures were a result of 43 hits, 14 of which went for extra bases (nine doubles, four home runs and one triple), and 66 total bases.
He knocked in 23 RBI and scored 23 runs, as well. He recorded a .457 on-base percentage with help from 17 walks and four hit-by-pitches, which tied for the team high. Additionally, he was third on the squad in multiple-hit and multiple-RBI games with 14 and seven, respectively.
Defensively, Kryszczuk posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with no errors in 52 chances (51 putouts and one assist).
NOTES:
-UNLV finished the 2021 campaign, 20-13 overall and 15-12 in the MW.
-UNLV reached the 15-win mark in MW play for only the sixth time since the conference's inaugural season (2000).
-UNLV had five of its own earn Mountain West All-Conference honors, as
Brendan Brooks and
Jack-Thomas Wold were tabbed to the All-MW First Team, while
Myles Denson,
Bradley Spooner and
Edarian Williams were selected to the Second Team.
-The Rebels are ranked in the top 20 of seven different NCAA statistical categories: No. 2 in slugging percentage (.538), No. 3 in both batting average (.333) and doubles per game (2.42), No. five in walks allowed per 9.0 innings (2.62), No. 10 in on-base percentage (.409), No. 14 in scoring (7.7) and No. 19 in home runs per game (1.42).
