LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's soccer team pulled out another late-game victory in its home opener Sunday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field, topping UC San Diego 2-1 behind senior
Aedon Kyra's 89th-minute goal. The victory gives the Rebels their first 2-0 start since the 2018 season.
Kyra delivered the Rebels' late-game heroics on a header from the top center of the box as his Scarlet & Gray senior counterpart
Billy Jones served up a deep pass from just past the midfield line. After a scoreless stalemate in the first half, the Rebels also struck first in the contest with senior
Nicolas Likulia's second goal of the year in the 55th minute off the setup by seniors
Jesus Partida and
Bailey Letherman.
The Tritons didn't wait too long to respond, getting on the board with an equalizer in the 66th minute that kept the contest close at 1-1 until the final moments of action.
The Rebels will now embark on a four-game road trip to the Golden State starting Friday at Saint Mary's. Kickoff against the Gaels is set for 4 pm.
