Rebels In 10th Place After Two Rounds At Season Opener

Gresco is under par and among the top 20 at Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hosted by Air Force.


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 3-over-par 291 Saturday at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, which is being hosted by Air Force at the Eisenhower Golf Course (par 72, 7,541 yards). 

UC Davis increased its lead from four shots to 15 as it is 25-over 551 after 36 holes. San Jose State is second at 10-under, followed by Denver (-8), UNR (-6) and Wyoming (-5). The Rebels are 10th at the 21-team event at 9-over. 

UC Davis' Thomas Hutchison fired a 10-under 62 to take possession of first place among the individuals competing in the team competition. He is at 14-under for the tournament and holds a five-shot lead. 

The Rebels are led by fifth-year senior (graduate student) J.J. Gresco, who is one of just 21 players under par. Gresco shot a second-round 1-under 71 and is 1-under for the tournament.  There are 105 players competing in the team competition, which is being held on the Blue Course.

The individual-only tournament is being played on the Silver Course and is being led by San Jose State's Vijay Srinivasan and Colorado's Jack Hughes, who both are 5-under. UNLV senior Jack Kozlowski is one shot back at 4-under.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will conclude play at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational with the final round on Sunday, Sept. 12.
