Rebels Earn Third Shutout in Win Over New Mexico State to Close Non-Conference Home Slate

Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Book's first career shutout and junior defender Taylie Liddell's first career goal send UNLV past Aggies

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Book's first career shutout and junior defender Taylie Liddell's first career goal sent UNLV women's soccer to a 1-0 win over New Mexico State in its final non-conference home game of the season Sunday at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The Rebels finish with a sweep of their two games played this weekend and improve to 6-2 overall.

"We always talk about how Sunday's are gritty games and I'm just really proud of the girls for coming out hungry and with a lot of fight," said head coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams. "I think New Mexico State is a great team and very well coached, and I expect them to have a great year in their conference. But kudos to our girls because they fought super hard until the end."

Liddell's score came at the 5-minute mark as she converted her penalty attempt for the Rebels, which followed a foul drawn by junior midfielder Lourdes Bosch in the Aggies' (4-3) defensive box.

In her second straight start, Book anchored the Scarlet and Gray defensive side to its third clean sheet of the year with three saves in 90 minutes for her second consecutive win.

The Rebels will now hit the road for their final non-conference game at Loyola Marymount next Sunday at 1 p.m. PT, before returning home for its conference opener vs. Boise State on Friday September 24.
