LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – New UNLV men's tennis player
Christopher Bulus made quite a first impression this weekend by winning the Flight One singles championship of the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Bulus, the event's No. 1 seed, did not lose even a set in four matches, finishing off Gonzaga's second-seeded Sasha Trkulja in Sunday's final, 6-3, 6-4.
"It was good to end the weekend with a win with Chris Bulus in the top flight," said UNLV head coach
Owen Hambrook. "He had a solid first tournament as a Rebel. Overall, it was great to get back to competing in fall events again and I want to send a big thank you to the athletic trainers for their help this weekend."
Bulus, a senior, finished last season ranked No. 4 in the nation on the NCAA Division II level. The native of Lagos, Nigeria, starred at the University of Western Alabama the previous two seasons after being a two-time JC All-American at New Mexico Military Institute.
Players from five other western programs -- Arizona State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Cal Poly and Grand Canyon – competed in the individual event.
