LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team saw its Mountain West home opener spoiled by Boise State as the Broncos used a pair of second-half goals a minute apart for a 2-0 win Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels three-game win streak ended with the loss, while they moved to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in the Mountain West. Boise State improved to 7-2 and 1-0 to start conference play.
Friday night's match pitted two of the top defenses in the league against each other and that battle ensued in the first half as neither team was able to break through with a score. Each offense had its chances, but the defenses on both sides clamped down for a 0-0 draw at the half. That stalemate continued into the second half until the 63rd minute, when Bronco Dorian Goodwin found the net, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, BSU's Kenzie MacMillan made it 2-0 and UNLV couldn't come up with any scores over the final 26 minutes.
Juniors
Jules Dominguez,
Lourdes Bosch and
Marcella Brooks each collected two shots apiece to lead all Rebels in the game. Sophomore
Taylor Book played all 90 minutes in the net, recording one save.
UNLV has another challenge to end the opening weekend of conference play as they host Utah State Sunday at 1 p.m. The Aggies had the top record heading into the league slate and beat UNR 2-1 Friday night
