BERKELEY, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's soccer team was stunned by two late goals from Pac-12 foe Cal in a high-scoring affair Sunday afternoon, resulting in a 4-3 setback to the Golden Bears at Edwards Stadium.
The Rebels (2-2) grabbed a 3-2 lead in the 65th-minute after a potential game-winning goal from senior
Nicolas Likulia assisted by senior
Aedon Kyra broke a 2-2 stalemate. However, the Golden Bears (2-1-1) responded with an equalizer 16 minutes later in the 82nd minute and tacked on the eventual game-winner in the 85th minute to overcome the Scarlet and Gray's bid for a road upset.
In the first half, UNLV took its turn at quickly responding to one-goal deficits to end the first half tied with Cal at two goals apiece. Answering Golden Bear goals in the second and fourth minute, senior
Marco Gonzalez sent in the Rebels' first goal off the feed from freshman Lateef Omidiji in the third minute and then tallied an assist of his own on Kyra's first-half equalizer in the 11th minute.
UNLV will next play the third contest on its current four-game road trip to the Golden State in Friday's 5 p.m. matchup with Sacramento State.
