UNLV football's all-time leading rusher
Charles Williams is scheduled to play in the Hula Bowl on Saturday in Orlando, Florida.
The prestigious postseason collegiate all-star game is being held at UCF's Bounce House in the Sunshine State this time around. The 76th edition of the Hula Bowl will be shown live on CBS Sports Network starting at 9 am PT. Williams will wear jersey No. 24 for Team Aina, which is being coached by former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith. Former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick is coaching Team Kai.
Williams (Fresno, CA/Bullard High School) is the 12th UNLV player overall (and fifth Rebel running back) to be selected for the Hula Bowl but the first since kicker Sergio Aguayo in 2007.
The Chuck Wagon finished his Rebel career with a school-record 4,201 rushing yards, which is the fourth-most in Mountain West history. His 1,261 yards in 2021 were a career high and led him to becoming the first UNLV running back to earn a first team all-league honor more than once in a career (2019).
Williams, who was also the program's first CoSIDA Academic All-America Team member, led the Mountain West as a senior with 15 rushing touchdowns. He was named MW Offensive Player of the Week on November 15 after finishing with 266 net yards rushing vs. Hawai'i, which tied for the second most in school history and marked the third-best outing in the nation during the season. His 38 carries that day broke Ickey Woods' 34-year-old school record for attempts in a game. Williams, who set a career-high with 202 receiving yards this fall, also turned in a 221-yard night against Utah State, making him only the fourth Rebel to post at least two 200-yard games in a career.
