Day One Complete At Spring Season Opener

UNLV sophomore Caden Fioroni led Rebel individuals with a 1-under 71 at Southwestern Invitational in Westlake Village, California.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV sophomore Caden Fioroni was the top Rebel performer on Monday, during the first day of play at the Southwestern Invitational, which is being hosted by Pepperdine at the North Ranch Country Club's Lakes/Oaks Course (par 72, 6,992 yards).

Fioroni, who transferred to UNLV from the Waves' program, shot a 1-under-par 71 during the first round and is tied for 14th among the 64 individuals competing. Georgia's Trent Phillips leads the event at 6-under, followed by UCLA's Devon Bling in second at 5-under.

The tournament includes six top-25 teams among the field of 12 and is being led after 18 holes by No. 13 Georgia at 9-under 279. No. 3 Arizona State is in second place at 5-under, followed by No. 7 Pepperdine in third at 1-under. UCLA is fourth at even par, while No. 8 Texas and No. 21 Washington round out the top five in a tie for fifth. The Rebels are 12th as a team at 14-over.

The rest of the Rebel individuals currently sit between 44th and 52nd place. Senior David Rauch shot 4-over on Monday, while sophomore Ben Sawaia was 5-over and junior George Leigh and senior J.J. Gresco each shot 6-over.

TV COVERAGE: The Golf Channel will air College Central from 1-1:30 p.m. PT, and then provide live coverage from 1:30-4:30 p.m. PT each day of the event.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The tournament's second round will be played Tuesday and the final 18 holes will be held Wednesday. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. and live scoring is available via Golfstat.com.
