Fioroni Finishes In Top 15 At Southwestern Invitational

UNLV sophomore shoots final-round 1-under to finish event in California at 1-under par.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV sophomore Caden Fioroni shot a final-round 1-under 71 Wednesday to finish in a tie for 13th at the Southwestern Invitational, which was hosted by Pepperdine at the North Ranch Country Club's Lakes/Oaks Course (par 72, 6,992 yards).

Fioroni, who transferred to UNLV from the Waves' program, finished the event at 1-under 215. It marked his third straight top 15 finish dating back to the fall season and he has now finished in the top 25 individually in all five events this year. He was one of just 17 golfers to finish under par at the event.

Arizona State's David Puig fired a 7-under 65 on Wednesday to win the event's individual title by two shots at 8-under 208. Wake Forest's Michael Brennan and Arizona State's Cameron Sisk both tied for second at 6-under.

The tournament included six top-25 teams among the field of 12 and the team title was won by by No. 3 Arizona State. The Sun Devils earned a 13-shot victory at 30-under 834 after a final-round-low 12-under 276. No. 7 Pepperdine finished second at 17-under, No. 21 Washington was third at 8-under, No. 13 Georgia was fourth at 1-under and No. 14 Wake Forest rounded out the top five at 5-over. The Rebels finished 12th at 42-over.

The remainder of the Rebel individuals placed between 46th and 58th. Sophomore Ben Sawaia was 13-over, senior David Rauch was 15-over, and senior J.J. Gresco and junior George Leigh were both 18-over.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will be back in action at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Hawaii, Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 17-19.
