Rebels to Face Hawai'i, Wyoming in Senior Meet

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams will close out the 2021-22 home slate when they host Hawai'i and Wyoming in their senior meet Friday (Jan. 28) through Saturday (Jan. 29). Spectators interested in attending will be required to wear a mask.

Competition will begin Friday at 4 p.m. with the swimming events, which will precede the diving events set for a 6:30 p.m. start. The meet finale on Saturday will open with special senior recognition (9:50 a.m.) prior to the remaining events for swimming at 10:10 a.m. and diving at 12:30 p.m.

Fans can follow the meet via livestream on the UNLV Athletics YouTube channel, as well as through live results on the Meet Mobile app. Official meet results will be posted on UNLVRebels.com.

LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, the Rebel women won 12 of 16 events to claim a dual victory over in-state rival UNR for the second straight year by a score of 167-128. Meanwhile, the Scarlet and Gray's men's squad returns to the pool for the first time since defeating UC Santa Barbara, 150-107, nearly three weeks ago on Jan. 8.

REBELS ATOP THE MOUNTAIN WEST: UNLV currently holds four of the Mountain West's fastest individual times on the season. Super senior Kate Afanasyeva spearheads that list with her pair of MW-leading marks across the 50 back (24.57) and 100 back (52.98). Additionally, senior Gabby Lizzul sits atop the league's time chart in the 200 fly (1:58.24) and sophomore Sarah Koopmans ranks first in the 100 IM (56.89).

UNLV WAC LEADERS: The Rebel men, meanwhile, sit atop the WAC rankings in 10 events this season. Headlining that group with two top-ranked marks apiece are junior Panos Bolanos in the 100 back (46.48) and 200 back (1:41.18), junior Cam Castro in the 1000 free (9:21.07) and 1650 free (15:04.59) and freshman Adnan Beji in the 200 breast (1:55.71) and 100 IM (50.25). Senior Sam Willstrop's 100 breast (52.74), junior Chris Mykkanen's 500 free (4:19.62), sophomore George Ratiu's 100 fly (46.90) and freshman Dominik Bujak's 400 IM (3:46.62) times round out that list.
