No Doubt: Booker MW Player of the Week

Las Vegas native crossed a milestone with a career-best performance last week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV junior guard Essence Booker was named the Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

It was her first time earning the weekly honor and gives the Rebels a sweep of the conference's basketball player of the week awards as UNLV senior Bryce Hamilton was announced as the men's selection earlier today.

Booker averaged 23.5 points, shot 53 percent from the field and was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line in UNLV's two wins last week.

The Las Vegas native scored a career-high 31 points to lead UNLV over New Mexico, 85-79, and into first place in the conference standings on Jan. 27. Booker crossed the 1,000 career points scored milestone in the game.

Against Air Force on Jan. 29, Booker matched a team-high with 16 points and led all players with five assists.

It is the second straight week a Lady Rebel earned player of the week. Sophomore center Desi-Rae Young was last week's selection.

The Lady Rebels (17-4 overall, 9-1 Mountain West) lead the conference standings with eight regular-season games remaining. UNLV next travels to Logan, Utah, for a matchup with Utah State on Saturday, Feb. 5.
