PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's swimming and diving team won its dual over BYU, 139-104, while the Rebel men were defeated by the Cougars, 134-109, Friday at the Richards Building Pool.

REBELS OF THE MEET:

WOMEN
*Finishing an individual three-win weekend, freshman Erika Carlson swept her two distance events with wins in the 500 free & 200 free.
*Junior Malia Fernandez went unbeaten in the 50 free and 100 free against the Cougars.
*Freshman Kayleigh Lovell won the 1000 free and finished second in the 500 free.

MEN
*Sophomore Adnen Beji capped his 3-0 weekend in the breaststroke events, setting BYU's pool record during his 200 breast win. He also took second in the 200 IM.
*In the 200 free, freshman Zsolt Szodi captured his second straight win to close the weekend unbeaten at 2-0 in that event.
*Senior Cam Castro earned back-to-back wins over the weekend in the 1000 free after capturing first-place vs. BYU.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*Finalizing her big weekend, Carlson clocked a 1:51.61 in the 200 free and 5:02.55 in the 500 free on the way to a pair of victories. She led a 1-2 finish in the 500 free that included a second-place finish by her Rebel counterpart Kayleigh Lovell (5:04.88)
*Fernandez mirrored Carlson's twin victories, finishing first with times of 23.66 in the 50 free and 51.72 in the 100 free.
*Lovell completed UNLV's sweep of the distance swims, winning the 1000 free (10:22.59). Additionally, senior Teneka Ash finished just two spots behind in third place (10:29.58) for the event.
*Senior Gabby Lizzul took center stage in the 200 fly, taking the win on a time of 2:06.60. Her victory headlined another Rebel 1-2 finish with Ash coming in second (2:07.53).
*The Scarlet & Gray's final individual victory of the day on the women's side was claimed by junior Calysta Bartlett in the 200 breast (2:19.15).
*Notching top-3 finishes alongside Fernandez, sophomore Pilar Cohen took second in the 50 free (23.76) and sophomore Bridget Sullivan finished third in the 100 free (52.51).
*The Rebel 'A' relay (Bokros, Sullivan, Carlson, Fernandez) squad provided the finishing touch with a 400 free relay (3:28.69) win.
*Leading the Scarlet & Gray's women divers, junior Vika Yanovska dove her way to a third-place finish (299.48) in the 3-meter competition.


THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*Beji, meanwhile, finished a perfect 3-0 in the breaststroke events after swimming a Richards Pool record of 2:00.74. His other top-2 finish in the day followed a swim of 1:54.20 in the 200 IM.
*In his second straight 200 free win, Szodi checked in with a time of 1:39.48. His Scarlet & Gray freestyle teammate Kris Matuszewski placed third (1:41.45) in the event.
*Adding onto the Rebel list of swimmers in the win column, senior Panos Bolanos won the 200 back (1:48.44). It was his 11th consecutive win in the event.
*Senior Cam Castro went the distance for his second straight win in the 1000 free (9:41.56).
*Scoring a second-place finish in the diving, sophomore Dima Tereshchenko took second in the one-meter (5 dives) competition.
*Wrapping up the meet, the Rebel men's 'A' relay team (Ratiu, Szodi, Butler, Hemmens) won the 400 free relay (2:59.31)

UP NEXT: The Rebel divers will return to action next weekend when they head to USC for the Trojan Diving Invitational, which is being held November 11-13. That trip will precede the squad's visit to the Twin Cities for the Minnesota Invitational from November 30-December 3.
