MINNEAPOLIS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming teams combined for 10 top-32 finishes as they competed in Thursday's finals on the second day of the Minnesota Invitational at Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center.
Among the squad's event finalists, the Rebels finished the day with a pair of NCAA 'B' cuts, along with wins in two finals heats.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
*Pacing the way for UNLV in the 50 free, super senior
Reece Hemmens (19.82) and sophomore
Bryson Huey (19.81) recorded NCAA 'B' cuts, while placing 13th and 18th, respectively. The Scarlet & Gray duo was joined in the top-25 in that event by junior
George Ratiu (19.93) in 25th place.
*Tacking on another pair of top-25 finishes, sophomores Mike Breitbart (1:49.21) and
Adnan Beji (1:45.25) took 23rd and 25th, respectively, in the 200 IM. Additionally, Beji emerged victorious in the 'D' final for the event.
*Another heat win for the Rebels came in the 500 free via senior
Panos Bolanos' first-place finish in the 'C' final. Bolanos swam a 4:23.30 to finish 17th overall.
*The Rebel relays added a sixth-place finish as the Scarlet & Gray quartet of Huey, senior
Steven Butler, Ratiu and Hemmens clocked a time of 1:18.47.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
*On the women's side, UNLV's highest finishes were provided by juniors
Calysta Bartlett and
Ruby Howell in the 200 IM. Bartlett (2:02.51) finished 20th, while Howell (2:03.06) landed just two spots behind in 22nd as the duo competed in the event's 'C' final.
*Freshman
Hannah Jones represented the Scarlet & Gray in the 500 free finals, coming in 31st place overall with a time of 5:00.14.
