Runnin' Rebels Defeat Rival UNR 69-58 Tuesday At Thomas & Mack Center

Four UNLV players score in double figures as team records first win over the Wolf Pack since 2018.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team defeated rival UNR 69-58 Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center, recording its second straight double-digit win.

Four Runnin' Rebels (13-9, 5-4) scored in double figures, led by Bryce Hamilton and Donovan Williams with 17 points apiece. Jordan McCabe added 16 and Michael Nuga contributed 10. 

The Wolf Pack (9-10, 3-5) also had four players in double-figure scoring, paced by Kenan Blackshear's 17 points.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV held UNR to just 1 of 9 on 3-pointers (11.1%) in the second half. The Wolf Pack managed just 3 of 17 for the game.



QUOTABLE: UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger when asked about the crowd, "How unbelievable that crowd was... and the energy, and the student section. I mean, my goodness, that was so much fun to come out of the tunnel and just see how much life there was in the Thomas & Mack and I thought there was a direct correlation to the guys. Hopefully we can keep doing that throughout the year."

STREAK SNAPPED: UNLV defeated UNR for the first time in nine tries, recording its first win over the Wolf Pack since 2018.

NOTES:
- The game was part of the Silver State Series, presented by IBEW and Nevada Donor Network.
- It was just UNLV's second home game in a span of 18 days.
- UNLV's all-time record against UNR now sits at 61-33.
- Hamilton, who was named the National Player of the Week by the USBWA on Tuesday and Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday, scored in double figures for the 16th straight game.
- UNLV held UNR to just 34.5% shooting from the field (19 of 55).
- McCabe and Williams each made four 3-pointers.
- Royce Hamm Jr. had a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
- Nuga and McCabe combined for nine assists and just two turnovers. McCabe also added three steals.
- UNLV led by as many as 19 in the first half, leading 42-26 at the break.
- UNLV out-rebounded UNR 39-35, running its record to 12-0 when recording more rebounds than its opponent.
- UNLV led in bench points, 17-3.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,151 straight games. 



NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will play at Utah State on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. PT. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
