TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's tennis, still down its No. 2 player in the lineup, went on the road to face the nation's 17th-ranked team, which is loaded with four ranked players, and fell 6-1 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
The Rebels dropped to 4-3 while the Wildcats of the Pac-12 Conference improved to 11-2, including 8-0 at home.
Arizona earned a 1-0 lead by winning a close doubles point and then clinched the overall victory with four straight-setters in singles play. The top two Rebels, however, forced a third-set super-tiebreaker and senior
Christopher Bulus, ranked 48th, rallied to outlast No. 73 Jonas Ziverts, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7) for his third ranked victory this semester.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Bulus teamed with
Zach Garner to give UNLV its only doubles win, 6-3, on court three, and then improved to 11-1 on the season with his singles triumph.
QUOTABLE: "Hats off to Arizona, they were very good today. We had a competitive doubles point. It was a great atmosphere here and we need to get back to work and keep improving."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
