LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team fought off DePaul 4-3 in the first of two matches Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 7-7 while the Blue Demons fell to 5-8.
UNLV grabbed a 1-0 lead by winning doubles matches on courts two and three. After the teams split the first two matchups, the Rebels won 7-6 on court two to grab the team point.
In singles, DePaul tied things at the top of the lineup where reigning Big East Conference Player of the Year Vito Tonejc eased by 76th-ranked
Christopher Bulus 6-2, 6-4. The rest of the five matches were wildly competitive with each featuring a tiebreaker set and three going to a third set. However,
Milos Dabic,
Anton Ornberg and
Jordan Sauer all prevailed to give the hosts the requisite four points overall.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Dabic teamed with
Zac Brodney to earn the clinching doubles match at No. 2, 7-6 (5), and then fought off Luuk Wassenaar in singles on court three, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
