Rebels Continue Conference Play In San Jose

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team will continue conference play with a three-game series against San Jose State held at Excite Ballpark in San Jose, California, beginning Friday with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. 

The Rebels (13-8, 6-0 MW) are coming into this weekend's contest 4-0 after sweeping Air Force in a three-game conference matchup over last weekend (6-1, 17-10, 8-5) and defeating UC Riverside, 6-2, Tuesday . The Spartans (12-9, 5-4 MW) are coming into the series having won three of their last four games, sweeping San Diego State (3-2, 8-7, 9-12), but dropping a single-game contest at Santa Clara, 12-9, Tuesday. 

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING 
UNLV and San Jose State have squared off a total of 77 times with the first meeting taking place in 1985 at San Jose. The Rebels own an 11-game lead in the all-time head-to-head series, notching 44 wins to 33 losses. The Scarlet & Gray won the last series played between both programs in 2019 (3-7, 4-3 (11 inn.), 9-4), but the last time the programs played in San Jose, the Spartans swept (2-1, 6-5, 7-6).

HOME SWEET HOME
The Rebels will return to Las Vegas for a single-game contest held at the Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin Tuesday, March 29.

REBELS CLAIM WEEKLY AWARD
- Gianni Horvat received the first weekly award for the Rebels, being named the MW Freshman of the Week following the Rebels' perfect weekend on the road (3-0) in San Diego February 28. 
Edarian Williams continued the weekly honors streak, earning MW Player of the Week, March 7.
- Conner Woods claimed pitcher of the week, March 14 after he picked up his first win of the season in a 4-3 victory over SDSU. 
Santino Panaro claimed Freshman of the Week, March 14, after having a season high two RBI for the Rebels. 
- Braden Murphy earned Freshman of the Week weekly honors today after helping the Rebels to a sweep over Air Force this past weekend. 

LEADERS IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
- UNLV currently stands atop the conference with a 6-0 conference record. The last time the UNLV baseball team opened conference play 6-0 was back in 2004. 
- The Rebels currently lead the conference in batting with a .316 average, 166 runs scored, 245 hits and 166 RBI. 
- Joey Walls leads the conference in on base percentage (0.493), sits second for batting average (.413), slugging percentage (.698), OPS (1.191), tied for fifth in doubles (6) and tied for fifth in runs scored (19).
Rylan Charles is tied for first in hits with 36, sacrifice flies with 4 and at bats (93), is third for batting average (.387), doubles (9), fourth for runs scored (20) and fifth for RBI (18). 
- Henry Ziesler is tied for first in doubles (3), ranks third for RBI (20) and third for slugging percentage (.686), tied for fourth for runs scored (20) and tied for sixth in batting average (.365). 
- Diego Alarcon sits second for runs scored (23) and at bats (91), tied for third in doubles (9) and in hits (29). 
- Kryszczuk ranks second in doubles (10) and triples (2), sits fourth in at bats (85) and hits (28), eighth in OPS (1.001) and in slugging percentage (.565).

Edarian Williams is tied for third in hits (29), tied for third in doubles (6), tied for fourth in hits (27), tied for sixth in at bats (82), sits ninth in batting average (.354) and on base percentage (0.454).
