LOGAN, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss at Utah State in what was the Mountain West opener for both teams at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club Friday afternoon.
The Rebels saw their three-match win streak snapped in falling to 11-10 while the Aggies improved to 7-9.
UNLV would prevail in a hotly contested doubles session to earn a 1-0 lead.
Christopher Bulus and
Zach Garner won their match, 6-4, on court three to clinch it after
Jordan Sauer and
Jackson Atherton took their match at the top of the lineup, 6-3.
It was a different story in singles play, however, as the hosts quickly won the first set on four of six courts to take control. USU eventually built a 3-1 lead, which meant the visitors needed to take all three remaining matches, but the Rebels only managed one singles win before the hosts closed it out.
REBEL OF THE MATCH:
Anton Ornberg posted his team's only singles victory, 6-3, 7-6, over Javier Ruiz on court six.
UP NEXT: UNLV stays on the road for conference play by visiting Boise State on Sunday.
