LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team lost an intense doubles point and could not recover in a 4-1 loss to New Mexico on Thursday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels fell to 12-12 overall and 1-3 in the Mountain West while the Lobos climbed into a first-place tie with UNR at 3-1 in the league (9-10 overall).
The teams split doubles matches on courts 1-2, with UNLV's win coming at the top by the score of 7-5. The point would come down to court three where the Lobo duo of Georgio Samaha and Rafael Abdulsalam eked out a 7-6 tiebreak victory over
Zach Garner and
Christopher Bulus.
In singles, UNM used that momentum to win the first set on five courts. The hosts, however, got on the board and then forced two other matchups to a third set before the Lobos closed it out with a trio of straight-set wins.
REBEL OF THE MATCH:
Milos Dabic teamed with
Zac Brodney for a 7-5 win at the top doubles position and then notched his team's only singles win, 6-4, 6-3, over Jan Pucalka on court four.
UP NEXT: UNLV closes its home schedule by hosting Air Force on Saturday starting with doubles at noon. Before the match, the team's seniors will be honored on Court One.
