Four Home Runs Help Rebels Claim Series

UNLV tops Boise State 7-3 Saturday at Dona Larsen Park

BOISE, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) — The Rebels hit four home runs, rallying from an early deficit to take the series win against No. 25 Boise State.

UNLV (26-6 overall, 4-1 Mountain West) captured a 7-3 victory over Boise State (27-7, 6-2) Saturday afternoon in front of a stadium-record crowd of 732 at Dona Larsen Park.

All seven UNLV runs came with two outs on the board.

"I love the energy this team—even our bench—is providing us right now, just staying engaged" UNLV head coach Kristie Fox said.

Jenny Bressler (W, 14-4) struck out five in five innings for her 14th win of the year, the sixth most nationally and tops in the Mountain West.

Lauryn Barker and April Visser bashed two-out home runs in the second inning to make up for a 2-0 deficit. Barker's line drive carried over the left-field fence while Visser's roundtripper bounced off Alycia Flores' glove as the right fielder was backing towards the wall.

Boise State shortstop Eliyah Flores tied the game with a solo blast off former Oklahoma teammate Alanna Thiede in the bottom of the frame.

"Alanna came out early and competed. She got in a little trouble but bounced right back. Jenny came in on short rest and battled through with key strikeouts to put zeros on the board."

In the third, Samantha Diaz put UNLV on top for good with an RBI single.

Mia Trejo and Denise Armendariz hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth to seal the victory.

The win moved UNLV over Boise State, who started the weekend at the top of the conference, into third in the Mountain West standings.

"It's very fun to take the weekend series at their place, but we're not done yet. "We want to come out tomorrow and compete. They're a mad team. They're going to do the same."

UNLV and Boise State finish the series Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
