A windy Thursday at Rebel Park saw the UNLV football team turn in its final practice before Saturday's Spring Showcase at Allegiant Stadium.
Fans are invited to attend the free event, which includes free on-site parking, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and the controlled scrimmage running from 5 to approximately 6:30 p.m. Please enter on the East side of the stadium. Concessions will be available for purchase.
Head coach
Marcus Arroyo met with the media after practice and talked about what will be the first open-to-all scrimmage since he took over the program. The entire 2019 spring practice was wiped out and last year's edition was also severely restricted because of the pandemic.
This also marks the first showcase to take place in the program's state-of-the-art home at Allegiant Stadium.
"We have our second spring under our belt and now are going into Allegiant, our home stadium, and have our fans and some crowd there and family members," said Arroyo. "Having a really good practice for our guys is really the most exciting piece. To get the community involved, to get back in our stadium, to have recruits be able to come to it. A lot of things are happening for the first time so there's a ton of excitement for Saturday. There will be an ebb and flow to what will be our 12th practice and there is a bunch of players I'm excited to see out there."
The scrimmage was scheduled before the final week of practices because the city will be centered on the NFL Draft a week from now -- and Arroyo said that offers some advantages.
"We made that into a positive because we'll hold the showcase and then come back and have three more practices to work on anything we find we need to. Get more reps, find some things to get filled before we hit summer. We have a new defense so they can find some things that maybe they haven't had a chance to get on film yet."
